Conchos: The Small Details That Make Western Style Legendary

Look closely at any truly great western outfit and you will find the details doing the heavy lifting. Conchos, those round decorative medallions born from Spanish and Native American silverwork traditions, are the original western upgrade: little bursts of engraved metal that turn a plain belt, hat or bag into something personal. In this collection, Wild Nord brings you a handpicked range of western conchos, from classic floral scrollwork and berry-edge designs to stars, crosses and turquoise-style centers.

What Can You Do With Conchos?

Almost anything, which is half the fun. The most common use is dressing up a leather belt, either spaced along the strap or clustered near the belt buckle. Hat lovers thread them onto hat bands for a custom crown, and leathercrafters use them on bags, wallets, boot straps, guitar straps and saddle tack. Riders have decorated bridles and saddles with conchos for well over a century, and the tradition is alive and well. If you make or customize leather goods, a drawer of good conchos is basically a toolbox of instant character.

How to Choose Your Conchos

Start with the mounting style. Screw-back conchos are the most practical for belts and straps, since they attach through a punched hole and can be moved or swapped. Slotted conchos let a strap pass directly through, ideal for hat bands and lacing. Then think about size: smaller conchos around an inch wide suit hat bands and delicate straps, while larger medallions hold their own on belts and bags. Finally, match the finish to your hardware. Bright silver-tone pieces pop against dark leather, antiqued finishes melt into distressed tan, and turquoise-style centers add that unmistakable Southwestern flash.

Quality in the Details

Because conchos are small, cheap ones give themselves away instantly: shallow stamping, flaking plating, wobbly screws. We handpick ours for crisp relief, solid feel and finishes that survive real use, whether on a belt you wear daily or a hat that lives outdoors. This is the same philosophy behind everything at Wild Nord: a tighter selection of pieces we would actually use, instead of an endless scroll of forgettable ones.
