Shearling Jacket
Sort by
A shearling jacket is as close as you can get to wrapping yourself in a soft blanket with the collar turned up. Its thick, woolly lining helps keep you warm when the wind picks up, while the smooth outer finish gives the style its distinctive, rugged western character. At Wild Nord, you’ll find shearling jackets for women and men, from classic aviator designs with wide collars to cropped, shaped fits and relaxed oversized styles that layer over a chunky knit. The collection includes genuine leather jackets as well as leather-look and suede-look designs, so you can choose according to your budget, preferred weight and the way you want your jacket to age.
The shearling jacket: a winter classic with western roots
Originally, shearling was made from sheepskin with the wool left on the inside. Pilots, ranchers and truck drivers valued it for warmth and ease of movement, and it has since become a western-style staple. Today, you’ll find the same look in different materials: genuine leather with a wool lining, suede-look styles with teddy lining, and leather-look designs with faux fur. Soft collars, contrasting edges and a lived-in feel bring these styles together.
Women’s shearling jackets
Our women’s collection ranges from cropped, waist-length jackets that pair well with high-waisted jeans to longer styles that cover the hips and offer more protection from the cold. Brown is a popular choice, adding warmth to winter outfits with denim, knitwear and boots. Beige and cream bring a softer, lighter feel, while a black shearling jacket is a more urban option that works with a dress or black jeans.
Men’s shearling jackets
For men, the collection includes rugged aviator jackets with zips and belt details, warm-lined styles with a straight fit, and teddy-lined jackets for chilly mornings or winter walks in town. A grey or dark brown design is easy to wear with jeans, chinos and work boots, and develops more character with regular wear.
How to choose the right shearling jacket
Genuine leather or imitation?
Genuine leather is heavier, breathable and develops a natural patina over time. Leather-look and suede-look materials are lighter, often more affordable and easier to care for; they also handle rain better. Check each product description for the specific material used.
Fit and size
A thick lining takes up room. If you plan to wear a chunky knit underneath, consider sizing up, especially with a fitted style. Oversized jackets are cut with extra room, so your usual size should generally work. You can also measure a jacket you already like and compare it with the size guide on the product page.
Colour and style
Brown and cognac feel most western-inspired and pair naturally with cowboy boots and a western belt. Beige and white look softer and brighter, while black is a discreet, modern choice. Think about the clothes you already own: a jacket that works with your wardrobe is one you’ll reach for often.
How to style your shearling jacket
For a classic western outfit, pair blue jeans with a checked shirt or simple knit, a belt with a statement buckle and cowboy boots. For a more feminine look, wear a women’s style over a long dress or skirt with boots. A felt cowboy hat can complete the winter outfit.
Care
Gently brush the lining with a soft brush if it becomes flattened. Let a wet jacket dry at room temperature, away from radiators. Genuine leather can benefit from a protective treatment before winter, while imitation materials can be wiped with a lightly damp cloth. Store your jacket on a wide hanger to help the shoulders keep their shape.
Frequently asked questions about shearling jackets
Is a shearling jacket warm enough for winter?
Yes. The dense lining provides good insulation, and most styles are suitable for a typical winter day, especially with a sweater underneath.
What is the difference between shearling and teddy?
Shearling describes a jacket with a smooth outer surface and a woolly lining. A teddy jacket is fluffy on the outside too. Both are warm; the choice comes down to the look you prefer.
